Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time!
Our divisions, 23 and 45, administer all Kiwanis clubs in the
Central and Northern Nevada areas and California clubs along the
eastern Sierra rim stretching from South Lake Tahoe to Susanville.
Kiwanis in Northern Nevada has been around since 1922 when the Reno
club was formed in October of that year. When Division 7
was created in November 1925, it administered the northern and
central Nevada areas. In 1927, the Carson Valley Club (originally
known as the Gardnerville-Minden club) was chartered. On
January 1, 1953, Division 23 was created by dividing Division 7.
Division 23 administered the current area of the two divisions until
1974. On October 1, 1974, Division 45 was created by dividing Division 23.
Guided by six permanent Objects, our clubs view their role within their respective communities with a great deal of foresight. Key aspects of our club operations include:
Evaluating both children’s issues and community needs on an ongoing basis
Conducting service projects to respond to those identified needs
Maintaining an active membership roster of professional business people who have both the desire and the ability to serve their community
Club meetings traditionally are conducted once a week and offer an atmosphere of fun, learning, and fellowship. In addition to attending the meetings, the typical Kiwanian volunteers each month to assist with club service projects.
In sum, our clubs are daily making a difference in improving someone's quality of life. We are truly an organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
